Story Time - Folklores of Bhangarh Fort

The tale of the Bhangarh Fort dates back to the 17th century. It was built by the one of the Nine Ratnas of Akbar, Madho Singh for his son. It inhabited over 10,000 people before it got deserted at once. Several frightening tales are engulfing the fort.

One such story revolving around the fort is the folklore of a princess, Ratnavati, with beauty beyond words. Her charm led a necromancer fell in love with her. In quest of his love, he used his powers of black magic and did some spells of magic in the oil she used. But to his shock, Ratnavati got to know about it and threw it in a boulder nearby. The magic spell worked and led the necromancer to his death. This is where the city of Bhangarh got cursed and is suffering to date. Before his last breaths, he cursed the town to become desolate with time. Without a doubt, the curse led to many incidents as the king was defeated by his enemy and the common people were lead to death. It is believed that foot-steps and adverse sounds can be heard during the night of a woman roaming around and without a doubt, it is believed to be the Princess Ratnavati. Quite logical?

Another folklore is the tale of Shadows. The Bhangarh Fort before its construction was the home to a simple person Guru Balu Nath. Madho Singh got approved by him but put forward a condition that the shadow of the fort should not cast on his house otherwise the unwanted would happen, unfortunately. But much to despair, his successor made the walls bigger and that lead to the downfall of a beautiful town to a town ruined and left in despair. Enough of chilly vibes.

Specialities of Bhangarh Fort

The sheer fact that there are clear indicators inside the fort to leave the fort before sunset suggests the horror of the fort is quite real and spine shaking. Strange noises and fast blowing winds are common indicators that it is not the right time to be in the Bhangarh Fort. According to the locals, whosoever has challenged to stay at the fort in the night has not been able to tell his stuff again, which made it necessary for the Archaeological Survey of India, to make these indicators.

The fort might be one of its kind in India as the entry of foreigners is prohibited in the premises. They can only enter the premises after a permit. This is due to several cases of foreigners being lost in the fort which lead the authorities to take this harsh step.
